Pablo
Picasso is one of the most important artists
of modern art and he is considered to be one
of the most famous artists of the twentieth
century. No painter or sculptor had been as
famous in his own lifetime. Picasso's work is
also extremely varied. He worked through many
different mediums. Over his career he has completed
prints, sculptures, paintings and ceramics.
Most of Picasso's work fits into three different
categories. They are his Blue Period, Rose Period,
and of course the Cubism movement. The Blue
Period spanned between 1901 and 1904.
The work during this period was done in various
shades of blue to depict his sorrowful feelings
towards the loss of a close friend. His subject
matter included beggars, prostitutes and convicts.
Picasso was successful in conveying the suffering
he was obsessed with at the time. The Rose Period
began during 1904 when he was living in Paris.
Picasso prints took on a warmer more optimistic
mood as he had moved past his depression and
found love.
