1887-1986
O'Keefe grew up on a large farm in Wisconsin.
She choose not to study in Europe instead she
studied in America and developed her own unique
style of abstract painting.
O'Keeffe
began to experiment with lighting and landforms
of the southwest, eventually evolving her distinctively
personal, disciplined, and monumental style.
She made abstract drawings of landforms from
memory and incorporated these organic shapes
in her designs. Through shading and design she
developed a powerful simplicity in her work.
