The
importance of his work lies with his attitude
towards life. In his youth, when he accepted
the world as it was quite happily, in his manhood
when he began to criticise it, and in his old
age became embittered and disillusioned with
people and society.
This was because after the defeat of Napoleon,
the ideals that Degoya had shown for society
and his fellow man were once again replaced
by royalty and oppression. This lead greatly
to his work which is greatly romantic.
