Andrew Newell Wyeth, America's most celebrated living artist, was born July 12, 1917, in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Andrew Wyeth holds no high school diploma, formal training or college degree. Until he was eighteen years of age, Wyeth’s father Newell homeschooled him and trained him in the arts. Known for his realistic depiction of everyday America, Andrew Wyeth is generally regarded as "America’s Painter." Several galleries and museums, including the National Gallery of Art, display his work when prior to this they had never featured the work of a living artist.

When Andrew was very young, he contracted whooping cough and was prone to illnesses thereafter. Since he was prone to illness, his parents then decided to take him out of public school and teach him at home. He only attended traditional school until the third grade.
